Permitted development...

What is permitted development?
Permited development allows you to carry out certain works on your property without formal planning permission.

As you can probably imagine there are restrictions as to the type of development you can do so that it does not affect your neighbours and the local street scene.

Some single storey extensions, garage conversions, dormer loft conversions, hip to gable loft conversions and out buildings can be classed as permitted development.

Due to the varied restrictions on permitted developemnt we always apply for a Certificate of Lawful Development to your local planning office to confirm in writing that the works comply. This application is important especially when you sell your house as you may be asked if you have planning approval for the works you have carried out.

Prior Approval for larger home extensions is now a well established application route. This allows larger ground floor extensions, sometimes up to 8m long, bigger than the standard permitted development allowances. As part of this process your neighbours will be consulted to see if they have any objections to your proposal.

If you are unsure don't chance it, call or email us to discuss your project and we can give you further advice.
